Prayer Shawl Ministry

The seasons are changing. Today rain is falling. A little wind will soon shake the remaining leaves from the trees to carpet the ground before snow flurries come to the region. Soon we won't want to be outside. On a dreary afternoon or evening, why not turn on a lamp and put you fingers to work and you heart and mind to praying.

First, pick out a bright color yarn or a durable darker color, or even a variegated color and start knitting or crocheting a prayer shawl. Homespun yarn is recommended as it is very soft. You can pick it up at Walmart or Michael's. You can send up prayers for the person who will later receive the shawl. You spirits will be lifted as you pray and as the shawl takes shape you really helping someone else.

When you have finished your shawl, take it to Sally in the church office. She will see that it is put on the altar. As prayers are sent up from the congregation at a service, you can again say a prayer for the recipient of your shawl. Later one of the pastors will the shawl with a note to someone going through a hard spot in life, an elderly person needing encouragement or even a new mother and baby. The note will let the person know the people of Elim are praying for them. Be blessing to others with you time, talent, and prayers. Need more information, call Wilma 651-433-3536.
